Things that I believe
  • I believe that all students deserve to receive a fantastic education that fits their needs, and should receive help so they can find a career that makes them happy and that they can be great at.

  • I  believe that people are in control of their behaviors.

  • I believe that thoughts affect feelings and that mindfulness can help anyone to control both.

  •  I believe in and respect the freedom that people have to make choices for themselves and their mental health care.

  • I believe all students can reach their personal goals and can obtain a fulfilling life with desire, time, and effort.

  • I think school counselors should be non-judging and help students solve their own problems.

  • I believe that the people who need the most help should get the most help, & that everyone should get some help.

  • I know that gifted kids need help too.

  • I know that physical health, social health, and emotional health are all one system.

  • I don't think there's any one right way to do things.
  • I value creativity.
  • I want you to be you.
  • Nobody should have to take on the world alone.
  • It gets better.

Miss Albin's Counseling @ Bishop Canevin

Why do people talk to counselors?
Everyone needs help sometimes! Humans are made to be social and we all need to know we're important, and sometimes we just need to talk it out.

Sometimes it helps just to have someone to talk to who isn't involved in the
problem .As a school counselor I talk to students and teachers about all kinds of things. I also have specific training in academics, career development, personal issues and mental health, social struggles, and spiritual development, so I am trained to help you with that you need.

My job is to listen and help you find solutions that you want, not to solve your problems for you.

I keep things said to me private.
Privacy means a lot to me.
I know that in order to really help, you need to be able to trust me, so I keep our conversations private.  don't talk to people about what you tell me because I am here to help you. I promise I will always do my best to show you the respect and trust you deserve.

There are some exceptions - if you ask me to tell someone what you said, or if I need to do something to make sure you or someone else stays safe (like in an emergency situation), I will share what you said so I can make sure no one gets hurt, but I'll do my best to limit the details to what is necessary for safety.

Sometimes other people can hear.
If you're talking to me on a video chat, I can't control things like who can hear you at your house. If we're in a class with other people, I can't control them either, so be mindful of who else is around before you share something private.
